Dear Families,
As per the Premier's announcement on Wednesday 7th September, the lockdown in Victoria ends tonight at 11:59pm. Students in Years Prep - 2 will resume learning at school tomorrow, Friday 10th September. This is fantastic news to welcome back our youngest members of our school community. Unfortunately, remote learning will be in place for students in Year 3 - 6 until further announcements are made. Teachers in Years 3 - 6 will continue to provide Google Meets and activities through the daily learning portal.
As we do welcome back the junior students, we thank parents and guardians for following Lumen Christi’s COVID safe protocols during the drop off and pick up times. We ask that you maintain social distancing and wear masks during this time. Unfortunately, we are unable to welcome parents and guardians back onto the school grounds and classrooms until further notice.
It is important to acknowledge the high COVID-19 vaccination rates amongst staff members, made possible through DOSCEL’s Vaccination Leave entitlement ensuring the health, wellbeing and safety of staff, students and the wider school community.
Well-Being Resources: For families with students in Years 3 - 6 navigating through remote learning, there are a number of wellbeing resources shared through the newsletters and school website which are highly recommended that serve to support both adults and children in the area of mental health. Particularly, an excellent resource is the Kids Helpline website. It is really important to remember that at times we should engage with professionals such as GPs when addressing mental health issues.
Onsite Attendance Booking: We have been committed to meeting our obligations in regards to COVID-19 guidelines and protocols so that the school can remain operational. The directives from the Victorian Chief Health Officer state that students in Years 3-6 continue learning from home and we ask for the continued support from families to achieve this. Parents that have an Authorised Work Permit (including those employed in roles that are exempt of this requirement) are eligible to request onsite supervision, whilst the school can also work with families to negotiate attendance in special circumstances. We have been very appreciative of the support and flexibility parents have shown to us the past few weeks as they work in partnership with us to coordinate their child's onsite attendance. As a staff we are happy to work with our authorised shift working families and value the opportunity to come up with fair compromises that acknowledge the important work being undertaken by both parents and teachers. When parents and guardians are active in minimising their child in Years 3-6 coming to school, it is very much appreciated - simple things like collecting your child early or dropping them later in the day are examples of how you can assist the school.
To allow us to coordinate staffing for next week (13th September - 17th September) we ask that the Onsite Attendance Booking form below be completed by 5pm tomorrow (Friday 10th September). This form must be completed for students in Years 3 - 6 to access onsite supervision.
Again, we thank you for your continued patience and persistence during this time. The end of the term will be next Friday 17th September at 12:30pm. More information about the end of term will be provided in next week’s newsletter. We are hopeful for a ‘normal’ Term 4.
Stay well everyone,
Mr Camillo Redi
Acting Principal
