Dear Families,
For our very first newsletter of 2022 and my first newsletter as the new Principal of your school, I’d like to say a huge thank you to the parents, children and staff of Lumen Christi for welcoming me into your school community. It is such a privilege to be a part of your school and I will work tirelessly to continue making Lumen Christi a great place to learn and be.
We have started the school year with much uncertainty, not knowing what the situation with Covid will bring. I thank all parents and carers for being respectful of our current restrictions, wearing masks and doing school drop offs and pick ups from the gate. Especially our parents of Foundation students, I know that it is disappointing to not be able to be a part of your child’s classroom in these first few days. We will continue to do our best to support all children to settle into or return to school. That said, our Foundation students have made a fantastic start to the school year, so we welcome and congratulate all of them on their first week.
A reminder that it is highly recommended for all students to undertake a Rapid Antigen Test twice a week on Sunday nights and Wednesday nights. If your child tests positive at any stage, please remember to:
- advise the School
- register the result on the COVID-19 Positive Rapid Antigen Test Self-Reporting Form available on the Coronavirus Victoria website as soon as possible
- isolate at home for the full 7-day period
In the event that your child must isolate at home, remember to contact your class teacher about options for home learning. Our learners are welcome to join their class over google meets, engage with their google classroom or if necessary, we can arrange a take home pack. We encourage asymptomatic children to take part in as many classroom activities as possible in whichever form best suits your family life however, if your child is unwell, it is important for them to rest and recover and completing school work is certainly not an expectation.
As a baby, I was baptised here in the church at Lumen Christi so it is truly wonderful to be working within this Parish where my own faith journey began back in the 1970s. Lumen Christi translates to mean “Light of Christ” and our school song asks us all to “shine with the light of Christ” –whether like me, you have grown up within the Catholic faith or whether our school is your family’s first experience of what it means to be Christian, I think we can all agree that living kindly, generously and with acceptance of ourselves and others are simple rules to live by.
Have a wonderful week ahead and thank you all again for a fabulous first week.
Sally
