Dear Families,
I would like to say a huge thank you to all families for supporting the school with the Rapid Antigen Testing and keeping children at home when they are unwell. It really is helping keep our Covid numbers to a minimum – we have very few children at home with Covid or isolating, which is great news for our school community. The Victorian Government have highly recommended the continuation of Rapid Antigen Testing for schools for the remainder of Term 1. We have received another delivery of RATs and children will be coming home with these in the coming days.
It is really important that all of our families access PAM (Parent Access Module). It is quite easy to set up and it will make it much easier for families to report an absence from school, give permission for excursions and make appointments for things such as Parent Teacher Interviews. We will be setting up our Parent Teacher Interview times very soon. They will be on Wednesday the 16th and Thursday the 17th of March. We have our fingers crossed that they might be in person, if not, we will need to conduct these via google meets.
A huge thank you to all of the families that got in touch about the Parents & Friends and School Advisory Committee. I will be in touch with those people in the coming weeks. We have room for more parents and guardians, everyone is welcome.
Next week, we enter into the season of Lent. We will be celebrating a virtual Ash Wednesday liturgy that Signora Colaciello will be preparing for us. Children will receive the ashes on their forehead. As a child, I remember well the excitement of receiving the ashes – it is an important day in our Catholic calendar, but it’s fun for the children too when they see the sign of the cross on their foreheads and they make for good memories.
Many years ago, Lent was a time for “fasting”, many families observed the tradition of fasting from red meat on Fridays. Today, we teach the children to “fast” from other things – maybe fasting from gossiping, unkind behaviour or every parent’s favourite, complaining about helping with chores around the house! There’s lots of things we can fast from. We will also be putting our Project Compassion boxes in classrooms next week to help other communities in need.
Have a wonderful week ahead,
Sally

School Advisory Committee - WE WANT YOU!!!
Dear families,
I am trying to set up a School Advisory Committee, to consult with me as the Principal on important matters affecting the school. The role of this committee is to ensure that the parent voice is being heard in the running and decision making of the school.
I have been a member of the School Advisory Committee at my children's school for many years, I have found as a working mum, it is a way that I can support the school and I have found it to be a really rewarding role.
You don't need any qualifications to be on this committee other than to be a parent or carer of one of our students. It is a look into the running of the school - everything from finance to uniforms - an opportunity to represent the parent body and have your say!
If you're interested, please give me a call at the school (5122 2231) or drop me an email (principal@churchill.catholic.edu.au).
I would LOVE to hear from you.
Sally
