Dear Families,
It’s been a very sad week watching the news of the war in Ukraine unfold. Tomorrow, the 2nd of March which is also Ash Wednesday, Pope Francis has called for a day of prayer asking both believers and non-believers to pray for peace.
I have always loved the Prayer of St Francis:
Lord, make me a channel of your peace. Where there is hatred, let me bring love. Where there is injury, pardon. Where there is doubt, faith. Where there is darkness, light. Where there is sadness, joy.
We pray for those in Ukraine who are scared, hurt and suffering and that the world leaders may come together to seek peaceful outcomes.
Our children may be at home watching the images of war on the television, it is important to try and answer their questions truthfully in an age appropriate way. They also may want reassurance that we are safe here in Australia.
On a lighter and brighter note, we have had some wonderful news this week. We have had restrictions lifted on a number of school activities. This means that our athletics day, our Reconciliation meetings and commitment masses and Parent Teacher Interviews can all go ahead IN PERSON provided parents are fully vaccinated. We are beyond excited to be welcoming parents and visitors back to our school after such a long time. We do still require masks to be worn inside and proof of vaccination status. To be fully vaccinated at this stage means two doses of the Covid-19 vaccine. We are unable to allow parents, guardians and friends of the school within the school buildings without sighting this. We do still need to conduct any school events in a covid safe way and we know that our parent community will be respectful of this.
This also means that I will have a bit more of an opportunity to meet parents face to face. I welcome anyone who would like to make an appointment to see me either in person or over the phone to do so, especially if there are any issues or ideas you’d like to discuss. Please feel free to email me at principal@churchill.catholic.edu.au to set aside some time if this is something you are interested in. Alternatively, we are still looking for people to be part of our School Advisory Committee – we are hoping to have our first meeting on the 22nd of March at 7pm. All welcome.
Athletics Day will be Friday 18th March, more information on this will be sent out in the coming week or so. I am also in the process of setting up the Parent Teacher Interviews for parents to access on PAM. Please ensure you have activated your account, contact Janelle in the office if you require assistance with this.
Have a wonderful week ahead,
Warm Regards
Sally
