Dear Families,
Another busy week went by at Lumen Christi last week.
The highlight was having all of our grandparents and special people come along for breakfast last Thursday morning. Thanks to all those who attended, it was a really lovely morning.
Sunday 24th July was World day for Grandparents and Elderly. Pope Francis has issued a statement to acknowledge this day:
"In old age they will still bear fruit" (Psalm 92:15)
Here is a message from Pope Francis:
The World Day of Grandparents and the Elderly is an opportunity to proclaim once more, with joy, that the Church wants to celebrate together with all those whom the Lord – in the words of the Bible – has “filled with days”. Let us celebrate it together! I ask you to make this Day known in your parishes and communities; to seek out those elderly persons who feel most alone, at home or in residences where they live. Let us make sure that no one feels alone on this day. Expecting a visit can transform those days when we think we have nothing to look forward to; from an initial encounter, a new friendship can emerge. Visiting the elderly who live alone is a work of mercy in our time!
Last week, I also sent out a letter in regards to current mask recommendations for school aged children. It is strongly recommended that children aged 8 years and over wear a face mask indoors. At Lumen Christi, we are following Covid-safe protocols with hand sanitising, air purifiers and social distancing. We have a healthy supply of masks for any children who would like to wear one as well as any adults visiting the school. The most helpful thing for us here at school, is to keep unwell children at home, administer Rapid Antigen Testing if there are doubts and let the school know if your child is unwell with Covid or confirmed influenza.
Remember that this week is parent teacher interviews. There will also be a very short survey for every family to fill in to give us feedback on our reporting in semester 1. We want our reports to be informative and useful for parents to gain a good understanding of their child’s progress and achievements. We’d like to get a good sample of opinions so that we can make further reporting decisions in semester 2.
Have a wonderful week ahead,
Sally
