Dear Families,
Here we are in week two of Term 3. I want to thank Kristie Smith for stepping in as Acting Principal whilst I was away on my leave with my family. Kristie did an amazing job and I’m very grateful to have such a strong leader in Kristie as well as my wider leadership team including Elly Smith leading Assessment and our Whole School Approach to Positive Behaviour and Janelle Szkwarek leading our Religious Education.
Whilst I was away, I was lucky enough to visit Rome and The Vatican City including the Sistine Chapel where Michelangelo famously painted the ceiling. I also visited Milan and whilst I was there, I was able to visit “The Last Supper” painting by Leonardo da Vinci which is located on the wall of a convent. As the leader of a Catholic School, it was a privilege to be able to visit places such as these
to learn about the Catholic Faith and traditions in such a special setting. As well as these things, there was plenty of pizza and pasta eating, watching the Euros and enjoying time with my family.
I also spent some time in London and whilst I was there, I visited the Churchill War Rooms which was the secret bunker where many wartime decisions were made by Winston Churchill. In our town here in Churchill, there is a giant cigar associated with Winston Churchill, our town’s namesake. He was an inspirational leader during a very difficult time and I think that the township and community of Churchill can be very proud to remember Winston Churchill as a part of its heritage.
We have another busy but short term here at school. Next week, our girls’ soccer team are off to the Regional Soccer Competition in Sale. We wish them the best of luck and are very proud of their achievements so far. We have book week coming up in August and a dress up day, our P&F are running a disco and we have our school concert on Wednesday 11 th September in the evening. All children will be involved in the school concert, which will be held at Lowanna College.
Our transition sessions start for our new Foundation Students towards the end of August. If there
are any other children that families know of who are planning on enrolling at the school, please encourage them to do so in the next few weeks as we start planning for 2025.
I want to thank our families for spreading a positive message about our school in the community. From time to time, I see things on social media pages or hear that someone has recommended our school to a family in the area and I want to acknowledge how much this is appreciated. At Lumen Christi, we are seeing some fantastic progress across the school, particularly in reading which can be directly attributed to working on our teaching practice and our effective approach to teaching phonics and literacy. It is lovely to hear that our families are spreading this news across the community, acknowledging the hard work of our staff and our students.
Am excited for the new term and all that lies ahead.
Have a wonderful week everyone,
Sally

CHILD SAFETY & WELLBEING
Lumen Christi Primary School is a child safe school. We are committed to embedding a culture of Child Safety, adhering to the Victorian Child Safe Standards: Managing the Risk of Child Abuse in Schools and School Boarding Premises (Ministeral Order No. 1359).
We believe that ensuring the safety of the students in our care is an integral part of who we are as a Catholic faith community. The school acts in accordance with the Ministerial Order through policies, procedures, measures and practices, staff training and, ultimately, through the strategies used in working with the students and families within our school community.
We continue to maintain and develop a safe and supportive learning environment where staff are focused on engaging students in meaningful, relevant and challenging learning experiences.
If at any time you have any issues or concerns you feel you need to raise please contact our Principal: Sally Darby or our Child Safety Officers: Kristie Smith, Elly Smith or Janelle Szkwarek on 5122 2231
