Dear Families,
I would like to take the time to thank all of our families for another wonderful term here at Lumen Christi. It has been a busy and eventful term, ended fantastically with our School Concert last week. Thank you to everyone who bought tickets and came to support our school and our students by watching the “Spooktacular Night” concert. I know all of our families would have been just as proud as myself and all of our staff were watching them on the night. So many hours of hard work went into preparing for the evening, which we hope all of our families enjoyed.
Last week, we also had our new Gaga Ball Pit installed which we must thank out hard working and generous Parents and Friends committee for. All children have had an opportunity to play in the Gaga Ball Pit and it is a very popular addition to our playground. We hope to get many years of fun out of this piece of equipment, starting in the coming months when the weather (we hope) should start to improve.
Yesterday we had an incursion with a company called Nudel Kart – our children loved having the opportunity to exercise their creativity and imagination to use the materials to build collaboratively, solve problems and think critically about a task. We will hopefully be investing in one of these to add to our playground to expand the options for children to play with on the yard.
A reminder that Thursday is the last day of Term 3 for students. School finishes at 3pm and Friday is a pupil free day. Staff will be at school on this day doing professional learning so there will be no provision to supervise children.
After the school holidays, students should be wearing a Summer Uniform option and all students will need to wear their hats. We usually allow a one week period of time for children to bring their hats back to school and after that time, it is “No Hat, No Play”. Hats can be purchased at the school
uniform shop. A reminder that it is an expectation that school hats are not ripped, torn or sporting any kind of writing on them. We will request that families purchase a new hat if this is the case as it is a school wide expectation that students respect our school uniform.
Summer Uniform Options are:
Grey shorts, green school polo
Green skort, green school polo
Summer dress
Please remember that sports uniform should only be worn on Thursdays and Fridays.
Remember this Thursday is Footy Colours Day. I will be wearing my Essendon Colours and I am looking forward to seeing all the children in their colours too.
I often end these newsletters with a
prayer, but this week I’ll end by encouraging all footy supporters to say a prayer for their team if they’re in the finals. At mass this weekend, the priest was a keen Geelong supporter and asked all the Parishioners to say a prayer for his team, so I guess it’s okay for us to do the same.
Please stay safe over the break. We will look forward to seeing everyone back at school on Monday 7th October for the start of Term 4.
Have a wonderful week ahead,
Sally

A reminder about student attendance. Parents have a legal responsibility to ensure their child attends school regularly. At Lumen Christi, the optimal attendance rate is 90% or higher. We love to see our children at school and learning with their friends.
When attendance falls below 90% (not due to illness) with no explanation, we are required to follow up with families as per our DOSCEL policies and procedures. In some cases, we may have to report absences to DOSCEL to ensure that we are meeting our legal obligations as a school.
If your family or your child needs support in ensuring regular attendance at school, we are here to help. Please do not hesitate to contact your child's teacher or Mrs Darby so that we can ensure all of our children are at school, learning and socialising with their peers.
e-safety - Gaming Information for Families
As we head into the school holidays and children may be spending more time online gaming with friends and other people in the online environment, please take the time to learn some of the things that can keep your child safe.
Tips for online safety can be found here on the e-safety commissioner website:
Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults notice
Dear Parents/ Guardians,
The R.C.I.A (Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults) program has commenced for the Morwell
Catholic Parish and Lumen Christi Parish. If you know of someone who has expressed an
interest in learning more about the Catholic Faith or has expressed a wish to become a
Catholic, please invite them to join the group. They may be waiting for someone to ask them
and lead them to finding out about the Catholic Faith.
The group meets once a week, at 7.30pm, at the Sacred Heart Tennis Rooms. Currently, the
day is Thursday, which may be negotiable. The next meeting is the 19 th of September and a
break for School holidays, restarting then on the 10 th of October.
If you would like to find out more, please contact the Morwell Catholic Parish Office on
51342949.
The meetings are open to people who are not baptised and also to people who have been
baptised in a Catholic or Christian Church and wish to receive Eucharist and Confirmation in
the Catholic Church. The meetings are also open to those who may wish to reconnect with
their Church communities after a time away.
