Dear Families,

And that’s a wrap for Term 1! We’ve had a busy and really positive start to the year,
so I know myself and our staff here at school are all looking forward to all of the
exciting things that are yet to come.

I would like to congratulate Nils, Esmae, Joshua, Erin, Manny and Tom in Grade 4 on
making their First Holy Communion on Sunday. It was a lovely mass followed by a
morning tea organised by the Parish to mark this special occasion in their Faith
journey.

I also would like to congratulate our P&F for running their first “Tuck Shop” lunch – I
was not at school on Thursday, but I hear it was a great success. So a huge thank
you to the group who organised this and to our school community for supporting it.

Please remember that on Wednesday this week, we have a someone at the school
filming so that we can update our school promotional video. Some people may
remember that we had a filming day a couple of years ago, which is outdated now as
children have grown, the things we offer have changed and people have moved on.
It’s important that we showcase our school in the best possible light so I have asked
children to please ensure they are in their correct school uniform for Wednesday and
treating it a bit like school photo day where we come looking our best. Remember
that if you do not want your child in the video, families need to return the slip
indicating that their child cannot be filmed on this day.

Our end of term mass is on Thursday at 9:30am in the church followed by our great
water walk raising money for Caritas and Project Compassion. We are trying to fill a
bucket to the top with coins. Mrs Szkwarek has organised this activity to try and link
our Catholic Social Teaching to something real life that children can understand and
contribute to.

On Friday, our Grade 5/6 class will present the “Passion Play” – this is the events of
Good Friday when Jesus died on the Cross. This is a very important, yet sad day in
the Catholic Church which leads to the joy of Easter Sunday when Jesus rose from
the dead. In assembly last week, one of the children asked, “How did Jesus do this?”
– a great question, which is a difficult one to answer. Catholics believe that Jesus fulfilled the promises of the Old Testament - the people of the Old Testament were waiting for The Messiah, who would die and rise from the dead on the third day. Catholics believe that this happened to Jesus. How God made this happen is a great mystery and so Catholics draw on faith to help make sense of things that are very hard to explain and understand.

There is a great life lesson to be taken from the Easter story too. We can only have Easter Sunday, because we endured Good Friday. It’s a great reminder that life is full of ups and downs, of good things and challenging things and that we need to draw on our faith and/or resilience to get through the difficult moments, but always with the hope that things can and will get better eventually.

Following the Passion Play, we will draw our Easter Raffle which has been organised
by our wonderful P&F team. There are HEAPS of prizes – thank you to everyone for
donating again so generously. We are looking at using some of our P&F funding to make some upgrades to the line markings on the playground and make it a bit more
colourful, interactive and engaging for our kids.

Please come along at 11:15 to watch the Passion Play and hopefully take home
some prizes from the raffle. A reminder that school finishes at 12:30pm on Friday.

Thank you for a wonderful Term 1. I hope all of our families enjoy the break and that
our children stay safe and return back to school happy and well rested.

Happy Easter and we will look forward to welcoming everyone back on Tuesday 22 nd
April for a short week.

PROJECT COMPASSION 2025

This Lent, we are called to Unite Against Poverty through Caritas Australia’s Project Compassion. By taking home a Project Compassion donation box (which came home on Friday last week), you’ll be helping to answer the Gospels’ call to care for our global family and walk alongside the most vulnerable.

This term students will be learning about Project Compassion and Caritas and the many ways they help people all over the world. Each classroom and child has a project compassion box and we encourage you at home to try and find some loose change to pop in your box, maybe go without that all-important coffee from the shop for 1 day and pop the money in the box instead, or your children might like to think of ways they can give something up (like a treat) and put the money in their project compassion box instead, or earn a few dollars by doing a job for someone and putting the money in the box. We will collect the boxes at the end of the term. 

We have a Whole School Project Compassion fundraiser at the end of the term called "The great water walk" so keep your eyes out in the newsletter for more information in the coming weeks.

Your generous support this Lenten Season will enable Caritas Australia to provide life-changing support to communities facing poverty, food insecurity, lack of education, and water shortages, while building resilience against future challenges. Together, through faith and action, we can bring hope and opportunity to those most in need.
