Dear Families,
I hope that all of our mums, nans, aunties and other special people in our lives had a
lovely Mother’s Day on Sunday. We definitely enjoyed our Mother’s Day activities
here at school and I would like to thank all of the people who came together for
Breakfast, classroom activities and mass on Thursday last week. We are so lucky to
have such a wonderful parent community here. Thank you for coming and being with
us to share these special moments at school with your children.
Our Parents and Friends group have been hard at work – they did a wonderful job on
the Mother’s Day stall, they are also organising a Lunch Order day next week on the
22 nd May. Make sure orders are in so that they can be prepared with the right amount of food. They have also been hard at work organising the Trivia Night, which will now be held at the Churchill Soccer Club this Friday night instead of the Churchill Pub. Unfortunately due to the fire at the Churchill Pub this morning, our Trivia Night can no longer be held there. We obviously hope nobody was hurt and we are thinking of everyone at the Churchill Pub who will have been affected by this event. Due to the change of venue, tickets are limited but there is still a table prize of $500 for the winners! I want to thank the P&F for their hard work and all the time they invest in fundraising so that the children at the school can benefit. There is always room for more parents, so please let myself of Janelle in the office know if you would like to be on the committee.
Next week, we are celebrating Catholic Education Week. Myself, Mrs Szkwarek and
our school captains will be attending a Mass in Beaconsfield with the other schools
across our Diocese to celebrate Catholic Education. I often promote our school by
saying, “Everyone is welcome at Lumen Christi” – it is not important that not all of our
families are Catholic. What is important is the difference that Catholic Education
offers. As Pope Francis said, “An education in the fullness of humanity should be the
defining feature of Catholic Schools”. This is why we gather, why we have special
mornings, why we celebrate mass or sing together in assemblies – because
celebrating as a community, valuing every child and family individually as well as
together and educating children in curriculum as well as what it means to be a good
member of society is such an important feature of Catholic Education and what sets
Catholic schools apart. I am very proud to be a part of Catholic Education in the
Diocese of Sale and believe we have a lot to offer our community and much to
celebrate next week during Catholic Education Week.
Our soccer teams will be participating in District Soccer next week on Friday also –
let’s hope they have a successful day also.
Lastly, we have a new Pope! It was very exciting to see the white smoke billowing
from the chimney on top of the Sistine Chapel in Rome last week. I am one of the
many people who has recently watched the movie “Conclave”, which shows the
process of how the Cardinals vote to elect a Pope – it was a great movie too!
So as a community, I offer this prayer for Pope Leo XIV:
Prayer for Pope Leo XIV
Loving God,
We thank You for blessing us with Pope Leo XIV, the first American to lead our Church. May his heart reflect Your compassion, and his words inspire peace and unity across the world.
Grant him wisdom to guide us through modern challenges, courage to stand for justice, and humility to serve with love. As he continues the mission of his predecessors, may he be a beacon of hope and faith for all.
Bless our school community, that we may support him through our prayers and actions, embodying the teachings of Christ in our daily lives.
We ask this through Jesus Christ, our Lord.
Amen.
Have a wonderful week ahead, and good luck to those taking part in the Trivia Night on Friday!!
Sally
