From the Principal - Merry Christmas
Dear Families,
Congratulations Camryn for being nominated 'Best of School' in the DOSCEL Christmas Card competition 2020
As we close the school gates this afternoon on 2020 we are bound to feel a wide variety of emotions. 2020 has been a year like no other, we have been challenged individually and collectively in ways we never thought were possible. Throughout all this though as a school community, staff and parents, we continued to place our children first and even though the days seemed long the year has gone by surprisingly quick. As we quickly approach Christmas we give thanks for the opportunities we were given this year, while we also continue to pray for those in our community who have faced tragedy, heartbreak and challenge this year.
A new year offers new possibilities and although I'm looking forward to the opportunity offered by essentially our first real break from work, remote-learning and COVID since Easter, I am already engaged and excited to get stuck into 2021. I would like to invite you all to consider how you can take advantage of a fresh school year. Months ago I shared a provoking clip that was doing the rounds of social media, title 'The Great Realisation'. It is worth reflecting on it again as the year closes, pondering if we have learnt anything from the events of the year and what positive changes are we going to have as non-negotiables in our lives moving forward.
Summer holidays pose potential safety risks to children and as parents we all need to be extremely vigilant across the break. Additional to the typical summer risks associated with water safety, the break from school is a high-risk time in terms of cyber-safety. With new devices and online activities arriving as Christmas gifts, our students from a very young age are now in a cyber-world that needs high levels of supervision and support. We know children will crave the social connection with their friends during the break, and although the benefits of this are obvious we find that negative behaviours and attitudes can thrive in this environment. It is definitely worth taking some time reinforcing good, positive and safe online behaviours. Just like we expect each other to act publicly, we must also remind our children that they must be kind, truthful and inclusive when they are messaging or playing online. Remember that the federal government have the terrific https://www.esafety.gov.au/ website available for both kids and adults.
I wish everyone a joyous and exciting Christmas, a time when we celebrate the humble birth of a baby centuries ago on the other side of the world. Like the Christmas star shining brightly may we as members of the Lumen Christi community be the 'Light of Christ' to others. Stay safe and enjoy the break.

2021 Start of Year Assessments
Each year we conduct assessment interviews with each of our students. We have opened up our Schoolzine "Session Keeper" which will allow parents to choose a timeslot for each of their children. The assessment days will be Thursday 28th and Friday 29th January from 8.30am to 3.00pm each day.
Parents will be able to book in a time via the school website or on the free Smartphone App using the account login created to receive newsletters etc through the Schoolzine platform. This notification has also been emailed to parents earlier this week.
