Dear Families and Friends,
Life sometimes seems to be moving at such a breakneck speed and all we seem to be doing is ticking boxes, but isn't it nice when you get the moment to slow down and, as they say, smell the roses. These are the God-ly moments we sometimes miss but are the moments that sustain us, as educators and parents.
This past week I have noticed plenty of things to celebrate across the school, from the confidence of the Preps strutting into school, our quality school leaders representing our school so proudly at the Churchill Community ANZAC event to watching our teachers at work yesterday in a combined professional learning day with some other Latrobe Valley schools. I am certainly blessed to be in my role with the simple things giving my day a real boost - like the other day when I was walking past a classroom and a student gave me a thumbs up to show he had his job as a learner all under control. I'm still smiling about it!
Like always we seem to be keeping busy with plenty of things happening but I would like to draw your attention to a few key items:
- 2022 Open Afternoon for 2022 Foundation Students
- Mothers Day Mass next Thursday
- InsightSRC School surveys. Paper copies due back next Monday, or complete online by Friday 7th May)
Finally, next week we farewell Mrs.Alesi. Bek has undertaken the Finance Admin role with absolute professionalism and competence but sadly for us other opportunities await. We thank her for her many contributions to Lumen Christi and acknowledge that she did so much more for us all than simply getting the bills paid. We will certainly miss her generous and happy spirit at the front desk. All the best Bek!
Kind regards, Dave

This term we open our enrolments for 2022. We have previously advertised a new initiative we would like to trial which is a set Open Afternoon. We have always had the belief that Every day is Open day, but thought by offering this some new families might feel more comfortable instead of having a private tour. We continue to welcome interested families to contact us for a visit anytime.
For existing families, or families who would like to join us, our enrolment form can be located on the school website. This form can be completed electronically in PDF or alternatively families can call by for a paper hard-copy.
Our regular pre-COVID Transition Program will recommence which includes sessions during Terms 3 and 4, moving towards the Statewide Transition Day on the second Tuesday in December.
Please contact the office if you would like to discuss transition or enrolment.
Year 7 2022 - Lavalla Catholic College Traralgon
Year 5/6s were visited by the Wellbeing Coordinator from Lavalla today to discuss Year 7 in 2022. The students were full of many wondering questions which were answered very well, easing their concerns around transitioning to high school.
For parents considering Lavalla in 2022, it is important to know that next Friday 7th May is the final day for enrolment forms to be submitted. This year, Lavalla has been inundated with enrolments and will reach their capacity quickly. We urge you to complete the enrolment form via their school website as soon as possible (before May 7th). Our school office has paper enrolments, however these will need to be completed and handed in to the Lavalla school office prior to next Friday.
If you have any questions, please contact Allison Foster at Lavalla on 5174 7355.
LAST CHANCE TO PARTICIPATE IS TODAY!
ONLINE SURVEYS CLOSE THIS EVENING
Each year we take advantage of the opportunity to be involved in a school wide survey that can contribute to our School Improvement Strategies. In Term 2 of each year, staff, senior students and a selection of families are offered the opportunity to contribute their thoughts and opinions to the process. The survey tool is anonymous and can be completed either in paper form or online.
The online survey period for 2021 opens on Monday 26th April and concludes on Friday 7th May. If your family received one of the packages we would really appreciate your support in completing the survey.
If you choose to use the paper version they need to be returned by MONDAY 3rd May so we can have them submitted to Melbourne by the closing date of Friday.
Please take note of these dates for your family calendar

This term, our inquiry unit in Grade 5/6 will be centered around Food Education and Sustainability Training. We have been honored to partner with Oz Harvest to create a fun and engaging journey with our students, teaching them the importance of nourishing our bodies, our country and fighting food waste.
Since beginning our journey, Oz Harvest have donated a free kitchen kit including 4 electric fry pans, measuring cups, chopping boards and also funded our ingredients for our weekly cooking session. Each week students will investigate what goes into producing and preparing healthy food and all the things we can do to prevent food waste.
Last week we made a fancy Peach parfait.
Mrs.Colaciello is after some cardboard boxes for the Artroom. Things like cereal boxes etc. would be fantastic.
Please send them along to school with your children.
