Dear Families
Firstly can we congratulate students on the way they have slipped into Remote Learning-mode. A key event each day is the Classroom Google Meet which our teachers conduct daily at 9am. These sessions have a few purposes. Essentially they are the opportunity for the teachers to explain the tasks for the day and to give students the chance to ask any work related questions. The daily meets also serve as an important wellbeing moment for teacher-to-student relationships as well as for the students to connect with their classmates (It is great to hear of the unscripted moments when pets and toddlers appear). The 9am time slot also gives the students time to map out their work day and also ensures that the children are up and active ready for learning like they would be on a regular school day. Again the message of how important routine is cannot be under-estimated. The school wide expectation is that all students attend these Google Meet 9am sessions. If you require assistance, support or direction with this please contact your child's teacher or the school office.
Device Bookings: We still have a few devices that were requested but are yet to be collected. These devices are waiting in the office for contact-less collection and we encourage you to do so promptly so that your child/ren can be full engaged in remote learning. If you require your child's device at home please complete the eForm and contact the school to arrange collection.
Onsite Attendance Bookings: The eForm for next week is available below. Our staffing guidelines have changed due to enhanced directives from the Chief Health Officer and we ask for the continued support of families that need to access this service. Parents that have an Authorised Work Permit (including those employed in roles that are exempt of this requirement) are eligible to request onsite supervision, while the school can also work with families to negotiate attendance in special circumstances. We have been very appreciative of the support parents have shown to us the past few days as they work in partnership with us to coordinate their child's onsite attendance. As a staff we are happy to work with our shift working families and value the opportunity to come up with fair compromises that acknowledge the important work being undertaken by both parents and teachers. We need to restrict the amount of staff and students attending onsite so when parents are active in minimising their child coming to school is it very much appreciated - simple things like collecting your child early or dropping them later in the day are examples how you can assist the school. To allow us to coordinate staffing we ask for this form to be completed by 5pm on Wednesday afternoon. (Note: If your current Permit is still valid there is no need to supply another copy.)
Well-Being resources: We have regularly shared in our newsletters and website a set of highly recommended Australian resources that serve to support both adults and children in the area of mental health. We also notice that there are a growing number of resources, webinars and presentations online for families - an example being an RCH presentation for parents (check out the school Facebook post). It is really important to acknowledge that as both parents and teachers we can support each other but need to realise at times we should to engage with professionals in this field of expertise.
Onsite Staffing: We have been committed to meeting our obligations in regards COVID guidelines and protocols so that the school can remain operational. We need to ensure that we are never faced with the school site or community being an exposure risk, and this can be minimised by following the staffing guidelines. By doing so we know that we will be easily able to switch back to face-to-face learning immediately when directed. Our school staff only have limited Authorised Work Permits and are only permitted onsite for specific tasks, which as a results means we have very few staff onsite at any one time. One example are the Administration staff that all need to work remotely while classroom teachers are generally only onsite now a few times a week. If you need to contact any of these staff please reach out via email or call the school office and we will pass messages on to them. Can we take a moment to thank the casual staff that are working to help us out with onsite supervision.
We offer of prayers for those who have died, their families and the sick. We also give thanks for the skills and knowledge of those leaders and scientists who guide us in this time, especially those leading the medical research to deal with this crisis.
