From Mrs Darby
Dear Families,
Firstly, thank you so much to our P&F team who ran a wonderful “Glow Disco” on Friday night. The children all looked like they had a wonderful time and I’m very grateful to the P&F for organising and running this event and all the other fundraising activities throughout the year. Thank you also to our wonderful families who supported this event, the P&F have many projects that they are hoping to
fund to enhance the school for the children. We had a number of volunteers also helping in the kitchen on the night – thank you for giving up your time to help out. It is much appreciated and as we all know, many hands make light work. The P&F are always looking for new members, please let myself or Janelle in the office know if you are interested in joining. It’s a great way to meet other parents and support the school community.
We had a fantastic celebration last Thursday for the feast day of St Mary of the Cross, MacKillop, Australia’s first Saint. It was lovely to see some of our parent community there supporting the mass that we attended alongside St Vincent’s and Sacred Heart. The children really enjoyed the opportunity to complete a fun activity with the students at Sacred Heart and we thank our colleagues in Morwell for hosting on the day and making us feel so welcome. Also, a huge thank you to Mrs Szkwarek who is our Religious Education Leader and for the effort that she went to make this happen. I would also like to thank our parish council for suggesting this event and for supporting the school to ensure we had transport to Morwell and back.
There were a few close games in the AFL over the weekend, congratulations to all the teams who will make the finals.
Please remember that we have Parent Teacher Interviews this week on Wednesday and Thursday evening. It’s a great opportunity to check in with your child’s teacher/s and be on top of what your child needs to work on for the remainder of the year. If you would like to know how you can support at home, this is the perfect time to chat with the teacher about this.
We also have some children representing our school in the inter-school basketball competition on Thursday. Good luck to them!
This week, it is National Week of Action against Bullying. We will hopefully be talking about this in our classrooms across the school. All children have the right to come to school and feel safe in the physical and online environment. We are always working at Lumen Christi to ensure that our children experience positive relationships at school.
When I was in mass on Sunday at my parish, the Second Reading was really relevant to National Week of Action against Bullying. Sometimes, the bible can be tricky to try and understand or take key messages from. But this reading couldn’t be more clear:
A reading from the letter of St Paul to the Ephesians
Never have grudges against others, or lose your temper, or raise your voice to anybody, or call each other names, or allow any sort of spitefulness. Be friends with one another, and kind, forgiving each other as readily as God forgives you in Christ.
Try then, to imitate God, as children of His the He loves, and follow Christ by loving as He loved you.
Have a wonderful week ahead,
Sally
