Dear Families,
Welcome back to Term 2!! I hope all of the children enjoyed a good break from school and are ready to get back into learning.
We have a busy term ahead, please make sure that you are across the school calendar so that you know what is happening over the term.
We have six children receiving the Sacrament of Eucharist for the first time this Sunday. All families are welcome to attend the Mass if they would like to support their classmates. Please keep in your prayers Abigail Jurdison, Arya Riess, Pippa Harder, Nate Wookey, Lucy Liu Saville and Ashley Sheary on this very special occasion in their faith journey.
Grade 5/6 will go to camp next week on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday – we are leaving at 9:30am so please ensure you are at school on time.
Next Thursday is ANZAC Day so there will be no school on this day and Friday 26 th April is a school closure day. There will be no staff on site on this day so please ensure that the necessary arrangements are made for children at home on this day.
There are two other pupil free days this term. On Friday 24 th May, staff will be undertaking professional learning on including Indigenous perspectives in the curriculum. On Friday 7 th June, staff will be undertaking training in our Whole School Approach to Positive Behaviour.
I do apologise for these pupil free and school closure days happening so closely together, unfortunately we needed to accommodate the availability of the presenters running the Professional Learning for us. I thank families for their understanding. These dates went home in a letter at the beginning of the year, I do hope I have given families enough notice to arrange care for their children.
I’d like to let families know that school photos will be on Thursday the 9 th May. This is a good time to send home a little reminder about school uniform – over the next couple of weeks, summer dresses and skorts need to be put away and the winter uniform options need to be worn to school. This is either the grey tunic or grey pants/shorts with grey socks or grey tights. And black shoes need to be
worn. We allow a couple of weeks to transition into the correct uniform for winter. Black skirts and leggings are not part of our normal uniform, but can be worn on PE days.
You might notice walking through the school, that the concrete is looking a little brighter and cleaner. We need to say a huge thank you to Brian Jurdison for donating his time and skills to improve how the school is looking. It looks absolutely wonderful and we appreciate the time and effort that has gone into this.
Lastly, I’d like as a Community to keep in our prayers those who lost their lives and family members in the Westfield Shopping Centre at Bondi Junction at the weekend. We pray that these families receive the support they need and that they find the strength to face the difficult road ahead after
this terrible and senseless tragedy.
Have a wonderful week ahead,
Sally
Please take note of these dates for your family calendar

School photos are fast approching on Thursday the 9th of May and on this day, we would ask that all students come in the correct winter uniform. The winter uniform options are, either the grey tunic or grey pants/shorts with grey socks or grey tights. Girls have the option to wear grey pants if they prefer this option to the tunic. Black shoes need to be worn. Black skirts and leggings are not part of our normal uniform. In the past I have allowed leggings on very cold days. School photos fall on a Thursday this year which is usually a PE uniform day, but for school photos we will not wear PE uniform on this day. Grade 6 students are encoruged to wear their grade 6 shirts. Below is students in the correct winter unifrom please refer to these for more information.
ANZAC day apparel badges are now on sale prices ranging from $1-$10. Grade 6 students will be coming round to each class every morning leading up till ANZAC day!
On the last day of term 1 our students came armed with so many coins and ready to make ‘cent lines’ in their house teams for our Lenten fundraiser. It was a really great experience and was wonderful to see all students helping each other and really getting into the spirit of the event. Would you believe, we were able to raise over $800! What a fantastic effort!
Caritas is the Catholic Church's international aid and development agency and Caritas Australia works hand in hand with the most marginalised communities in Australia and overseas, to confront the challenges of poverty. One of our lines even made it the whole length of the basketball court! Well done to Green house who made the longest line and thankyou to all parents, families and students who contributed to our cent lines.

Our School Wide Expectations and Whole School Approach To Positive Behaviour Support
Families might notice that as a school our messaging talks about being Respectful, Responsible and Resilient. These are our School Wide Expectations which all children are being explicitly taught in classrooms. When children forget to follow the expectations, we then refer to the behaviour charts for classrooms and the yard to identify the correct consequence for the behaviour. We use these expectation and behaviour charts to ensure that we have a consistent approach to managing behaviour in our school.
Parents are welcome to look through our expectations and consequences chart. If there is any feedback in relation to any of this, please let myself or Miss Elly Smith know.
Complaints and Grievances Policy
In the event that families have an issue with a teacher or the school in general, I would like to advise families of the Complaints and Grievances Policy that we use within DOSCEL schools.
There is a helpful flowchart at the end to help with who to approach in the event that there is an issue that needs to be addressed.
We prise ourselves on our relationships with our families at Lumen Christi and we hope that we can always resolve issues in the event that something should be brought to our attention.
Policies are made available on our website also.
